As we head into spring, local nurseries will be overrun by eager gardeners who can’t wait for their sprouts to bloom. For those of you that want a colorful garden but don’t know where to start, local gardener Laura Driscoll has your back!

The single mom of three boys runs an easy to follow TikTok account filled with planting tips, canning tutorials, and even family-friendly activities like making your own plantable seed paper.
“TikTok has been absolutely amazing in giving people quick bits of information on how to start and how to troubleshoot along the way,” Driscoll said of her reach. With over 186,000 followers, her real-time videos provide a relatable and realistic view of gardening, canning, and cooking to an enthusiastic audience. Most of her videos have tens of thousands of views.

Driscoll was born and raised in Raleigh and learned most of what she knows about gardening from her parents. She’s a believer in just experimenting to see what works; some of her videos include buying vegetables and legumes from the grocery store to see what will take root at home. Her thrifty and common-sense advice will come in handy for anyone planning to grow their garden this year!
What’s Driscoll working on at the moment? “It’s currently February and I’m planting peas, beets, carrots, and potatoes outside! I have also started seeds like tomatoes, peppers, cabbage, brussel sprouts, and broccoli inside.”
